CAT Simulation
Computerised adaptive testing, the way the real exam behaves
How CAT decides
It is not counting your right answers.
Every item you answer narrows a confidence band around your ability. The moment that band sits entirely on one side of the passing standard, the exam shuts off. This simulation shows you the band while you work — the one thing the real exam never does.
95% confidence
The exam stops when it is sure
If your ability estimate sits clearly above or below the passing standard, the exam ends — at 75 items or at 145.
Maximum length
Running long is not failing
Reaching 145 items only means your estimate stayed near the standard. The last 60 items decide it.
Run out of time
The last 60 items rule
If time expires, the exam scores your final 60 items. Pacing matters more than any single question.
What this simulation does
- Serves one item at a time with no going back — the same constraint as the real exam.
- Updates a visible ability estimate and confidence band after every submission.
- Ends early once the stop rule is satisfied, exactly as the real exam would.
- Reports by content domain afterwards so the result is actionable, not just a verdict.
